What is axis plasma cutting? How many axis do we need for cutting?
Axis plasma cutting is an advanced CNC (Computer Numerical Control) manufacturing process that involves moving the plasma head along an axis around the workpiece to cut and shape the material from different angles. Allows the operator to cut complex parts in a quick step and eliminates the need to disassemble, reorient and reinstall the workpiece after each plasma pass.
A standard 2-3 axis plasma cutter can only cut metal parts in 2D motion. Inherently restricts the operator from cutting flat metal. More directional axis movement allows for a high degree of flexibility in cutting, resulting in 3D (three-dimensional) cutting. The rectangle pipe plasma cutting need 4 CNC axis.
The plasma cutting head in a four-axis plasma cutter moves along the following axes.
X-axis: horizontal movement – left and right.
Y-axis: Horizontal movement – front and back.
Z-axis: Vertical movement – up and down.
A-axis: Horizontal rotation – Rotate on the X axis.
